Bizen Ware Jar by Master Kaneshige Sozan [VINTAGE]
Kaneshige Sozan, a revered twentieth-century master potter, crafted this medium-sized Bizen ware tsubo, or storage jar, as a masterclass in traditional Japanese atmospheric wood firing. True to the finest Bizen tradition, the unglazed stoneware surface shows a breathtaking range of natural kiln mutations, streaked with cascading waterfalls of golden goma, a natural sesame-ash glaze fused into the clay over a multi-day pine wood firing rather than applied by hand. The high-contrast flame markings represent the peak aesthetic of the Kaneshige lineage, each one unrepeatable by nature of the process. Excellent vintage condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. A genuine collector's piece, suited to a room where its surface can be studied up close.
